I've gotta wonder why ESA is using limited batteries on this thing. NASA uses nuclear batteries (Radioisotope thermoelectric generators) so their probes can be powered for decades.

So, they lost contact with the lander during descent and believe it may have crash landed. But for good news, it did deploy the atmospheric monitor they wanted to study gasses on Mars at least.

Americans are the only ones to ever successfully land a probe on mars. The other space agencies are still quite a bit behind us and now our private space industry too.
