How exciting.
Here's the article.
Quite interesting; test tube babies for the future! >.> Only a 1 in 4 chance with the mice, but at least the ones that did form had a normal life expectancy and could procreate.
Still a long way to go, but interesting nonetheless.

it's astonishing how - sort of exponentially things seem to be growing in terms of - across the board discovery.

I read another article that says this is debunked/misreported. Kind of an example of mainstream media misinterpreting scientific data or some such deal. If I see it again I'll post it.

just as we are poised to get our first ever woman President in the US, women are rendered obsolete. FIGURES Women won't be obsolete until men are tough enough to be pregnant and give birth. You think passing a kidney stone is bad... You know, I keep hearing that women are tougher than men just because of childbirth. But how many women work 30+ years in coal mines, construction, infrastructure maintenance, etc.? Occupations that push the human body to its limits on a daily basis for the majority of one's life. Women are far more comfortable in management positions - air conditioned offices, comfy chairs, assistants to bring them coffee and snacks. If 36 or so hours of child labor is how we gauge the pinnacle of toughness, I just don't know what to say.

You're right - not many women do. Part of it may be physical limitations (the old upper body strength argument), but part of it is cultural. Those are not generally fields that women are encouraged to enter, even in these enlightened times. But then again, how many male nurses do you know who've been in the field for more than 10 years? I've only ever worked with a handful, and the majority of them had been medics in the service. Is this because men can't be nurturing caregivers, or is it because it's simply not encouraged culturally? In my experience, it's got to be the latter, because the guys I've worked with are no less professional and compassionate than the women. Isn't everybody more comfortable in an air conditioned office with a cushy chair and a personal assistant? Only problem is, you have to take the headaches that go with the perks, and that's the case whether you're a woman or a man. It's not just 36 hours of labor. It's 9 months of pregnancy, and 18 years of physical and emotional care of another human being. And I'm not faulting guys - I mean, one of my brothers spent about 5 years as a house husband, and he's a better parent than his ex-wife could ever dream of being - but for whatever reason, raising kids is women's work. Not so much as it used to be, but still... OK. I'll shut up now. You made a simple statement, and I've given you a thesis in reply, and we'll probably never agree anyway. But I will say that when it comes to childbirth, the proof is in the plumbing, You really want to pop a 7 lb kid out of your urethra?

We'll never agree because the idea of what constitutes pain and toughness is based on opinion, perspective, and being able to relate. But by no means would I assume that child birth is a breeze.
