The evolutionary theory at work, when a species is threaten, there genetics change to adapt to survive! Mutations all around!

well - something I also think can be at play is - what other species are they interacting with? For example - animals in the wild vs animals that interact regularly with humans. What effect does that have on their evolution, being around a species that not only readily communicates in a complex fashion, but actually regularly attempts to communicate with them in a complex fashion.
Like dogs, cats, horses.
But I grew up around horses, and that line about 'horses recognize the consequences of their actions' is something I've seen many times. Like - just like a person, when a horse does something stupid, they seem embarrassed. Or when they act like an asshole, sometimes they seem to want to make amends for that.
