deadline.com/2016/10/the-gong-show-revival-will-arnett-1201829517/ I don't know, I think these kinds of reboot shows are almost always awful, but with Will Arnett involved, this might be the exception. There are plenty of dummies to gong in America, I can see this becoming a meme quickly, which might translate to some longevity.

I loved the Gong Show when I was a kid. Watched it a lot. Chuck Barris, The Unknown Comic, Juicy Jaye P. Morgan, Jamie Farr, etc... That shit was funny. I think this reboot will be not funny. Ugh.

I never really saw the original, but I don't hold out much hope for this. I think it will be dummies who are looking for their fifteen minutes, or possibly random YT idiots the producers think might get viewers.

How to Get Away With Murder<3 is also a great one.

I could also see a lot of "plants" on the show... people hired to do stupid shit. I don't see the point in this reboot at all.

There are plenty of people on YT who do stupid shit for free, why waste money bringing them in?

There are plenty of people on YT who do stupid shit for free, why waste money bringing them in? Well, I'm sure the show has a bigger budget than it would need and would not have to offer very much money to most people who are desperate for fame or some kind of notoriety. There are thousands and thousands of people these days who would likely accept a very small amount of money to appear on television. Back when the original Gong Show aired there were regular type folks who would go on the show and do their thing, but there were also many unemployed "professional" or aspiring actors that would take the check to do their thing. One such famous person (well before he was famous) who did exactly that, more than once, was one Paul Rubens.

It's difficult to see why they would spend money they don't have to, particularly given the higher cost of production for shows like SHIELD, and given the ready availability of free people looking for attention.
The unknown comic bit was pretty good. Paul Rubens was an interesting find, I wasn't expecting that. Who knows, they might do an unknown comic kind of skit as a regular thing if it gets that far, but given the current entertainment trend, I'm expecting a stream of stupid getting gong'd so the audience can feel better about themselves.
