I'm really surprised Texas is out that fast, it is the playoffs though and shit like that happens.
Giants and Cubs are in extra innings and it's raining... so direct tv can't function and I'm trying to use the shitty ass mlb gamecast to keep up with the game. :/
Kind of worried about them having Mike Montgomery in there, He was used for spot starts near the end of the season but they had him warming up for about 2 innings earlier in the game.... his arm may get tired soon.

Man that was draining watching the Giants/Cubs game 3. But it ended alright. Also cool that the Red Sox were eliminated and the Dodgers lost. Woo!

It was very draining. I always hate extra innings when the Cubs aren't the home team. The bullpen has always been hit or miss, that being said, Montgomery did a pretty damn good job for having warmed up for 2 innings around the 5th to 6th innning.
I kept trying to find the official Playoff roster of the Cubs to see if Jason Hammel was on on there, I'm assuming he isn't at this point. I would have used him instead of Montgomery honestly, a decent SP for a long duel would have been much better than a spot starter who's arm was on borrowed time.
It was a good game though, I wish I could have watched the last few innings.

Well I just saw the most massive 9th inning bullpen melt down I've ever seen in my life.
*commits seppuku*
Also, I put this one squarely on Brandon Crawford. One bonehead error caused the 2nd run for the cubs, which should never have scored, and his second bonehead error in the 9th allowed the inning to continue when the score was tied 5-5, instead of getting the inning ending double play. If not for those two errors, the Giants would've won 5-4.

I'm sorry, I know you guys are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from me on this... but that ninth inning nearly made me shit myself.
It went from "Ok we got two guys on base, Zobrist is a good hitter but we're grasping at air here." to
"Ok, 2 sac flies and we could tie it." to
"HOLY SHIT! We tied it with no outs!" to
Honestly I couldn't yell anymore after that. My voice is almost gone and i'm pretty sure my neighbors either hate me, think some kind of domestic abuse happened, or think I was murdered.

He had like 120 pitches on the night. In the age of the pitch count, there's really no reason to leave a pitcher in longer than that unless they have a no-hitter going, I think. Also it wasn't the full year that the bullpen had been bad. Their (former) closer Santiago Casilla had been bad all year, but the rest of the bullpen didn't go south until the second half.

I've never understood the whole pitch count thing tbh. I remember it was just becoming a thing around 2003 or so when Dusty Baker would leave Mark Prior and Kerry Wood in for 130-150 pitches and people claim that's why both their arms turned into paper mache. A counter to that argument is Carlos Zambrano. He was allowed to exceed 120 pitches just as much as they were and I cannot remember him have any significant arm problems, anger issues... yeah a shit ton, but arm problems, not really.
I don't think going over 120 pitches in one game is going to cause one's arm to explode on the inside, especially if the other team has struggled to get hits all night.
Hindsight is always 20/20 though.
I wouldn't let it get to you though, Giants are a damn good ball club and they'll be back next year. I also want to throw mass kudos to the Giants for being the only team that I've witnessed get a hit off Chapman since the Cubs acquired him. I know a high 80's fastball is hard to see from personal experience, I cannot even fathom a 100+ mph fastball... honestly, if I took a chop at a ball that speed people would probably think I was having a seizure instead of swinging a bat.

Tonight's game was another good one, very intense. Dave Roberts really gutsy calls keeping his closer from the 7th to the 9th and than bringing in Kershaw for the final 2 outs. Pulling a San Francisco Giants

I don't know the goat thing. I saw someone in the crowd during the NLDS wearing a goat mask, but I have no idea what it's supposed to mean. Also, yay, Cubs win! Also, just going by this postseason, but it seems Aroldis Chapman isn't very effective when trying to get a 6 out save.

He did one or two in the regular season after they traded him, but he's openly admitted he prefers 3 out situations.
The goat is a huge thing! They claim the Cubs haven't won a world series since way back when some lady wasn't allowed into the stadium with her pet goat.

The bad part is people actually believe in it to the extent where they occasionally send goat heads to the stadium to try and end the curse. The real reason is that up until the current regime and owners.. the Cubs never really built their farm system. The last two playoff runs were mainly lead by numerous overpriced FA acquisitions. There's an article out there somewhere explaining it all. To sum it up basically The Tribune, and the owners before them, realized fans would show up no matter how bad the team was so they really didn't care how they performed.
I still remember when Angel Pagan, Felix Pie, Carlos Marmol and Jake Fox were pretty much the only prospects the Cubs had. I think Pagan is the the sole survivor that actually stuck around in the Big Leagues.
That being said, tonight Kershaw pretty much imposed his will upon the Cubs. It was good pitchers duel at first. Hendricks just wasn't getting some questionable calls but, Kershaw was getting the same strike zone and adjusted to it better. The entire came was decided by one bad pitch (which wasn't even that terrible) and a lack of plate discipline by the Cubs.

I literally slept all day yesterday, so I missed the game. >_> Looking at the box score, wow. Looks like Kershaw is finally performing in the playoffs how he usually does during the regular season.

Around the 5th or 6th inning he showed a flash of being human when Baez and Contreras both singled off him, unfortunately Heyward came in and popped up to end the rally. What really sucked was the 3rd inning, Rizzo got ahold of one and sent it right down the line and out of the park.. unfortunately the wind was blowing from left to right and it pushed it foul.

Hopefully they stay that way. I've always wanted Hill to make a comeback. He started off with the Cubs and showed a lot of potential, then they fucked with his delivery in the off season after his rookie year and he kind of went to poop. After that I think he got traded, and then traded, and then traded, and then traded again. I'm glad he finally found his groove, I just hope he doesn't have his groove if the Cubs face him again.
